Dedisa and Avon are open-cycle gas turbine plants (335 MW and 670 MW) located respectively in the Eastern Cape Province near Port Elizabeth and in KwaZulu-Natal Province near Durban.

Dedisa peaking power plant

The Dedisa peaking power plant achieved Commercial Operation on 30th September 2015. The facility has two Ansaldo v94.2 Open Cycle Gas Turbine Units with a combined capacity of 335 MW.  The facility is intended to supply electricity into the National Grid during peak hours and emergency situations.

Avon peaking power plant

The Avon peaking power plant achieved Commercial Operation on 20th July 2016.  The facility has four Ansaldo v94.2 Open Cycle Gas Turbine Units with a combined capacity of 670 MW.  The facility is intended to supply electricity into the National Grid during peak hours and emergency situations.

A 15-year power purchase agreement was signed with Eskom Holdings (the buyer).

The project companies that own the power plants – Dedisa Peaking Power and Avon Peaking Power, are held by ENGIE (38%), Legend Power Solutions (27%), Mitsui & Co (25%) and The Peaker Trust through Avon BBBEE and Dedisa BBBEE respectively (10%).
